Stroud High School

One undifferentiated county-wide rank order for all 150 places — no two-tier local/national split like Pate's, and no sibling priority either.

Stroud High has taught girls since 1904, with a co-educational sixth form. It shares the Gloucestershire consortium's GL Assessment test with six other schools, and — like Pate's — gives no priority to siblings at any stage. Where it differs structurally from Pate's is the ranking mechanism itself: Stroud High runs one plain county-wide (and explicitly out-of-county) rank order for its 150 places, with geography used only as a last-resort tie-break, rather than Pate's two-tier split between a capped local pool and a separate nationally-ranked pool.

Admissions

Admissions authority
The school sets its own test and criteria
Entrance test board
GL Assessment, named directly on the school's own site, shared with all seven Gloucestershire consortium schools on the same day. Switching to FSCE from the test sat in summer 2027, for September 2028 entry.
Test format
Two multiple-choice papers sat on one day at a test centre of the family's choosing: Paper 1 covers verbal ability and English comprehension; Paper 2 covers non-verbal reasoning and numerical reasoning/maths.
Qualifying / pass mark
No fixed pass mark. The Published Admission Number is 150; the required standard is recalculated each year as a rank-order cut among that year's test-takers, with no separate 'Qualifying Group' published beyond the PAN itself — unlike Pate's, which explicitly defines a top-250 group for its own 150 places. For the most recently completed cycle, Gloucestershire's own guidance recorded 431 total preferences and 200 first preferences for Stroud High's 150 places.verify with school

No fixed or historical cutoff score is published by design. Secondary tutoring sites cite an approximate range, but these aren't sourced to the school or council and aren't used here.

Superselective?
No

Runs a standard single-tier, county-wide-plus-out-of-county rank order at its own admission number, with no inflated qualifying pool or unusual oversubscription relative to consortium peers. Pate's, by contrast, explicitly defines a Qualifying Group of the top 250 candidates against an equivalent-sized intake, splits places into a capped local pool and a separate nationally-ranked pool, and is co-ed (drawing from a larger applicant pool than single-sex schools like Stroud High) — independent guides consistently describe Pate's as needing the highest scores in the consortium. Stroud High isn't superselective, in general terms or relative to its own consortium.

Catchment & priority criteria

No catchment area — applications from outside Gloucestershire are explicitly accepted. Straight-line distance is used only as a tie-break between identical scores, then random allocation if still tied.

  1. Looked-after and previously looked-after children who met the qualifying standard
  2. Pupil Premium/Service Premium-eligible children who met the qualifying standard
  3. All other candidates who met the qualifying standard, by rank order of score
